"Where did I park the car?"

Scotland roadsideIf you drive, chances are at some point you have forgotten where you parked the car! You know what car park its in, but have no idea what row or, if its a multi-storey car park, what level! Whenever I drove to Dunfermline I tended to park at the top of the multi-story... that way I was never having to remember what level it was on! However, there was this time when myself and Linda went to Edinburgh...
It was a Saturday and it was just the two of us, so we decided a day in Edinburgh, just wandering about, was a great idea! So, we get in the car and set off! Our intention was to park in the car park near the castle, just off the Lothian Road. However, when we got there the queue went almost all the way back to Lothian Road! So, we took the next right and found alternative parking arrangements!

We get out and make sure we have paid and displayed, then head into the centre of town!

Don't ask what we did... probably just wandered around and went into the sort of shops that Linda likes going in to! Actually, I don't mind going into the Whisky Shop, if only that was the only one she liked going into!

Needless to say we had a good time, but soon it was time to make our way back to the car! Have you ever walked into the car park and wondered to yourself "where did I park the car?" Well...

We could both visualise it. The car park itself was below an office block and Monday-Friday it was for employees only. The entry to the car park was down a ramp. The car was parked in one of the spaces in front of the ramp, slightly to the left! I can still visualise it now. Wee green Suzuki, sitting there in the dim car park. The problem was...

... where was the car park itself? We wandered around for ages looking for anything that was familiar! The bookshop that sold the old maps... the junction that split the road... the... oh wait a minute... we drove through that junction! Trouble is we couldn't remember if it was left or right! So we continued to look for anything that was familiar. The bookshop that we... passed not long before!

Needless to say we did eventually find the car park and needless to say the car was parked where we could visualise it was... and now we can look back and laugh and see the funny side! I wonder if the people we passed realised we were actually lost... well, not lost... we could have found our way back to the centre of Edinburgh or (at the time) back to the book shop (just don't ask me where it is now!) but we were lost! No... actually... now I think about it... it was the car park that was lost!

Did you ever ask yourself "where did I park the car?" Nowadays we just try to remember how to get to the car park itself!

Yeah, blame it on the carpark :-) I bet the whisky shop did it. I had a similar experience in Brussels, Belgium with a few friends. We were so glad to have finally found a parking we didnt bother checking its location. We searched for almost an hour and from all the excitement, it took us another hour before we left the city and found the circular road. We did see a lot of the city, but those were typically the parts you dont want to see :-)

I suppose our minds may still have been in the whisky shop, but... I think the problem here was with me being quite familiar with Edinburgh and assuming I would be able to get back to the car no problem!

Never mind, we found it in the end... otherwise we may still have been there looking and you would have been none the wiser!

You better keep away from the moor then. (-: Nothing familiar out there either, when it's growing dark.

Having read about your experience, Jörg, I will quite happily get lost in Edinburgh any time... although I'm not so sure about staying away from the moors!
